Fathers, Spend Time with your Daughters

Every wise father knows how important it is to spend time with his daughters. If the father daughter relationship isn’t healthy, then the daughter will have no foundation, no pillar of strength and virtue at home to depend on, when other men come prowling around. And boy, men do prowl.

Now, this isn’t just true of the relationship between a father and daughter. It is equally true of the relationship between a constituency (the father) and their representatives (their daughter). You see, when a candidate is running for office, he or she is spending all that quality time with their constituents, building trust, building a bond, building a relationship. But as soon as she is elected and leaves her home district for Washington DC, other “men” do come a prowlin’. Men from K-Street. Men from Wall Street. Men from Eric Cantor’s office. Yes, they come prowling around whispering promises and sweet nothings, telling them only squares listen to their constituents. “Leave the conservative constitutional claptrap back home”, they’ll say. “You’re in Washington now! Let me show you how its’ done”.

How many of our daughters have been corrupted the second they stepped foot in DC? And this is why it is so important to keep in touch. If they won’t come home to visit, then we need to go to them. Even if they stop calling, that doesn’t mean that we stop calling them. We’ve got to let our representatives know that we’re still here, that they have our support, and that we will continue to reelect them. They don’t need to give into to all the prowlers with their expensive dinners and their fine wines. They don’t need to put themselves in compromising situations in order to raise a few more dollars from special interests outside of their districts and states. We’ve got to let them know that if they stay true to their values and principles, that we’ll always be here at home, ready to have their back at a moments notice. We’ll raise money, we’ll knock on doors, we’ll fight beside them; they don’t need K-Street or Wall Street or Karl Rove. These are bad men. Depend on us, your districts, your states, your constituents.

Fathers, spend time with your daughters. Constituencies, spend time with your representatives.
