First Impressions of Paul Ryan Pick

By most measures, Paul Ryan is a great pick for Mitt Romney’s VP running mate. There are few in Washington that truly comprehend the US Budget and none of them are elected.

This pick will give the Romney Campaign an opportunity to sidestep the distractions from the Obama Campaign and keep the message focused on the economy. In addition, Team Romney now has two attack weapons – Romney and Ryan – giving them the full complement of armaments. (Of course that assumes Obama VP Biden is armed.)

The Democrats will attack Ryan on Medicare laying false claims that the VP pick will throw granny off a cliff. They are no doubt already blowing the dust off the old videos as we speak.

But Ryan has a plan to actually turn the bankrupt entitlement into something that is viable. All team Obama has is promises that a broken and completely bankrupt system will be fine.

Most of us are anxiously awaiting the VP debates. Paul Ryan vs. Joe Biden. That should prove more interesting than the Presidential debates in terms of pure entertainment value. Ryan will mop the floor with the hapless Biden.

Fiscal Conservatives will applaud this pick, but the more Libertarian among us are branding Ryan a RINO.

Pro Life groups are happy as are most Social Conservatives.

Romney and Ryan will focus on the economy and Obama will try to focus on Romney’s taxes, Ryan’s Medicare Plan and his budget, and Team Obama will no doubt try to portray Ryan as a foreign policy lightweight. But that is far from true.

When told that the Obama Campaign plans to run on their foreign policy successes, Ryan said “I hope so”.

When asked why he thought that, Ryan pointed out “they have no foreign policy accomplishments.”

Now we must endure the lies and smears from the Obama campaign.

It’s on!

And now we progressives must endure the lies and smears from the Romney campaign. I have a novel idea… how about if BOTH camps avoid all the mud-slinging and innuendo, and actually detail their plans without hyperbole? Naaah, it’ll never work.

(PS. Aren’t you at least a little bit curious about the tax returns?)

Kirk, it has been my experience that pointing out facts such as under Obama, welfare has grown to epic proportions, food stamp use has more than doubled (from $39 B in 2008 to $81 B in 2012), the real unemployment numbers, which for July were 17.2%, the fact that the “reboot” with Russia didn’t work and that radical Islam has spread through the Middle East under Obama’s weak “leadership” and that Obama has has raised the National Debt more than the last 41q presidents combines are all seen by Progressives as smears, negative campaigning and even though these are facts on the record, they are called lies. The truth is, this is Obama’s record. Things are worse than they were 4 years ago. As bad as things were in 2008 and 2009, the prospect is today, worse.

Obama can’t run on his record and his only option is to run a negative campaign attacking Romney and Ryan personally. And to do so, they must use lies, distortions and dirty tricks. Because they got nothin’ else. Any effort to portray accomplishments that don’t exist and twist facts are easily exposed with truth and facts. To date, Romney has not gone negative. He has barely responded to the outright lies – like him being responsible for a woman’s cancer death 6 years after he left Bain. The family was offered a buy out and refused it and the woman had health insurance for several years after the mill was closed through her own employer.

So, most of us on the right are pushing Romney to use Obama’s radical associations with terrorists and his own history – the truth – against him. So far, Romney has been far less willing to attack Obama than he was to attack his Republican Primary opponents. I believe he needs to get just as nasty as his opponent to counter the only strategy Obama has – lies. But Romney can do it with truth. And he also needs to run positive ads about his plans to shed the newest entitlement – ObamaCare – and replace it with something that actually addresses medical costs – not simply attacking the insurance industry, which is all ObamaCare does.

So, no. I believe that the reality is Obama must lie, spin, and smear to have a chance. And Romney must respond in kind.

And as for his taxes, he said he was successful I believe him and admire him for his success. And am I curious? hell no! If you think for one second that Obama has not ordered the IRS to look into Romney’s finances and go over them with a fine tooth comb, then you are mistaken. There is nothing there or it would leak to an all too willing press. Had Romney not paid taxes he would already be in jail. He was vetted as a possible VP for McCain in 2008 and released his taxes to them. The McCain campaign saw 20 years of Romney’s taxes and he overpaid them, which is not uncommon for the wealthy. They would rather overpay than be subjected to audits and harassment. And id Romney was such a tax cheat, he likely wouldn’t also be so free with his charitable donations. He gives millions.

No, the Obama Campaign and you guys on the left want to see his taxes so toy can twist and spin every investment and transaction in the worst possible light. I believe he overpaid his taxes. And we are not entitled by law or by constitution to see any of them.

It is the same with the Super PAC’s. The left is screaming to see the list of donors, not so they can make a better informed decision, but so they can go after the donors and attack them as a means to stop the flow of money to Romney. Dirty politics. Look at what happened to Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas man who is supporting Romney with millions of dollars to his PAC’s. He is now under investigation by Obama. And if a CEO happens to be a Christian, well, look at Chick-Fil-A. And Gibson Guitars. And the list goes on and on.

I think it is more important to the right to free speech that these things remain secret because you Progressives have a proven track record of abusing the information by bullying the individuals.

As I said, you can’t run on your record. Marxism and Socialism have never worked anywhere. They pull the people down to the lowest common denominator over time. Free market systems always expand the lot of the people and actually make everyone far more wealthy. Even the poor. Almost 4 years of Progressivism have proven it is a failure. But most of us already knew that from looking at Europe.

And when the debt eventually smacks us in the mouth like it is bound to do, things are going to get worse. Far worse.

George W. Bush was a Progressive in many ways. He ruined this country with his Socialist “Compassionate Conservatism” and started us on the wrong trajectory. Obama has pushed us down the same path only far faster. Bush amassed a lot of debt and Obama has increased that trend. It didn’t work for “W” and is not going to work for Obama. All OBama has done is double down on Bush’s failures. He is a third term of Bush on steroids.

We really need to go a new direction and relearn to appreciate success, not hate it and attack it.

Romney will turn the nation back on it’s proper course. HE won’t get us where we need to be, even in 8 years. It will take many years to reverse the Bush-Obama Progressive era damage. Mitt won’t see the final results in his two terms, but I believe by Paul Ryan’s second term we will once again be the America that works.
