How To Beat A Speeding Ticket Legally

The first step is to run out and but a Toyota. It does not have to be one involved in the current recall, it only has to say Toyota.

Next, drive any speed you wish. In a hurry, floor it. Toyota owners can now beat any ticket by blaming “sudden acceleration”.

Back in the ’70, I was riding in the back seat of a Chevelle SS owned by a friend, who was driving. Two other friends were in the car and we were out cruising on a Friday night. We blew through Highland Springs like we were in and Indy Car race. Then we saw the red flashing lights.

“Crap, I’m doing 60 in a 25” my friend said, referring to his speed. “They will put me under the jail”.

He pulled over to the side, threw the shift into neutral and told the guy in the passenger seat to stomp on the gas and keep it pressed to the floor.

As the cop pulled up behind us and got out of the car, my friend was already opening the hood of the dark green SS and the roar of the revving engine grew louder!

The cop walked up with his flashlight just as my friend disconnected the accelerator link and the engine calmed down to a low broom, broom, broom.

My friend told the cop the accelerator got stuck and he thought he was going to die.

The cop held the flashlight as my friend reconnected the accelerator and sprayed it with some lubrication. The cop said it looked like the link was bent, and my buddy said he would order one in the morning.

The cop congratulated my friend on his driving skills as we promised to take the car straight home.

As soon as the cop drove off, we burst into laughter. We really pulled one over on that cop!

Now, today comes a story out of California:

“I pushed the gas pedal to pass a car and it did something kind of funny … it jumped and it just stuck there,” the 61-year-old driver said at a news conference.

“As it was going, I was trying the brakes … it wasn’t stopping, it wasn’t doing anything and it just kept speeding up,” Sikes said, adding he could smell the brakes burning he was pressing the pedal so hard.

A patrol car pulled alongside the Prius and officers told Sikes over a loudspeaker to push the brake pedal to the floor and apply the emergency brake.

“They also got it going on a steep upgrade,” said Officer Jesse Udovich. “Between those three things, they got it to slow down.”

After the car decelerated to about 50 mph, Sikes turned off the engine and coasted to a halt.

The officer then maneuvered his car in front of the Prius as a precautionary block, Udovich said.

It did something kind of funny? And then the B.S. meter in my head pegged full right when he said the car jumped.

I’m sorry. I have driven a Prius. The only jumping they will do is off a cliff.

Sorry officer. You have been had!

Seems this guy wanted some free repair work done on his car, but was told his Prius was not one of those recalled. Well, after his press conference I would imagine he laughed his ass off just like we did in Highland Springs.

What a country!
