Is The Tea Party Movement Really Racist?

Racism in the Tea Party

There are a lot of people that believe the Tea Party movement is an anti Obama movement comprised of racists and nuts. But is this really true?

If it were true, rest assured that Virginia Right! would never promote such a thing. It is as simple as that. But not only do we promote the Tea Party movement, we highly endorse the message they espouse.

The Tea Party has no use or tolerance for bigotry of any kind. That is not to say that there are not bigoted people who use a Tea Party protest to try to spread their hatred. But the heart and soul  of the Tea Party movement are appalled and deeply offended by such behavior. In fact, bigotry is antithetical to the Tea Party movement.

For a white man to hold up a sign saying Obama is a Socialist is no more racist than a black man holding up a sign saying Bush was a Fascist. The targets of the ire in both cases are the philosophies of the men, not Obama or Bush themselves, and the person’s race does not even factor into the message.

Media Bias

Many refuse to believe the media is biased against the Tea Party movement. But consider this: Is there even one example of the hypothetical black man used in the previous paragraph being accused of racism?  Obviously not.

So, is this media bias?

Add in the fact that the media will ignore thousands of innocuous signs and zero in on one sign with a bigoted message and somehow try to claim that is representative of the Tea Party Movement.

No one signs a pledge or takes an oath. People simply show up. No form of identification is required. Are some of these people planted intending to reflect poorly on the movement? Without a doubt. Do some have views outside of the majority of the Tea Party? Absolutely.

So can these people be banned? Probably not. The rallies are held in public places and are open to all.

Why Do The Say the Tea Party is Racist?

On first blush, the answer would seem to be that those with an agenda counter to the Tea Party message of smaller Federal Government and lower taxes, a return to the Founding Father’s vision, i.e. the Progressives, simply wish to disparage and discredit the Tea Party, which is a threat to the higher taxes and larger government they are pushing.

But, digging a bit deeper, the Progressive Democrats are fearful that the message of smaller government, lower taxes and freedom will resonate with African Americans, the majority of whom are not only Centrists, but Conservatives.

Blacks are very religious, overwhelmingly pro-life and not afraid of hard work. And while social issues like abortion and religion are not Tea Party concerns as a matter of policy, they are issues which are at odds with the Liberal philosophy.

If African-Americans take the time to listen to the Tea Party message without the filters of the left-wing controlled media, guess what? They like what they hear.

And they get terribly bitter when they find out the left has been lying to them.

So now, the left has begun attacking Blacks that would dare open their eyes and make up their own minds. In other words, educate themselves. If you recall, a little over a century ago, slave owners insisted that slaves remained uneducated. Knowledge is power. And if slaves were educated, they become hard to control.

From Fox News:

They’ve been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white tea party movement — and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation’s first black president.

“I’ve been told I hate myself. I’ve been called an Uncle Tom. I’ve been told I’m a spook at the door,” said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

“Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks,” he said.

So, the small numbers of African-Americans involved in the Tea Party movement is not “proof” of racism on the part of the Tea Party. But is is proof of the left’s determination to keep African-Americans ignorant of freedom and liberty.

I would simply ask that African-Americans attend the Tea Party in Richmond on April 15th, or find one close to your home. Come with an open mind and ignore the attempt by the left to keep you uninformed.

Can you think of any African-Americans who became active in the Tea Party and then left? I can’t. But there are many African-Americans who left the Democratic Party for the Tea Party. And they will not be coming back.

The reason there are not large numbers of African-Americans at the Tea Party rally’s is not because they are not welcomed, it is because they don’t come.

Consider this an invitation.
