Pass a 90 Day Extension of the Tax Cuts and Let the New Congress Finalize the Deal

This tax “compromise” bill has turned into another pork filled vehicle that exemplifies all that is wrong with our government.

The voters spoke in November. NO MORE! Yet, here comes a large dose of more of the same. This time the excuse is “we must pass the Bush Tax Cut extension” or the world as we know it will end!

This is nothing that cannot be fixed retroactively by the next Congress. Is this the preferred course to take? Obviously not. But as long as Nancy Pelosi has a hand in the process, it is inherently corrupt. She always uses the must pass bills to toss in as much irresponsible spending as possible to take advantage of the process. This is why she was left out of the process to begin with. But now, she is a woman scorned and is hell bent on cramming as much pork as possible into the mix.

The logic, or lack thereof, of the Democrats is astounding. They argue that it is irresponsible, even immoral, to pass tax cuts on the wealthy, when these are not cuts at all. And the only way they can see to overcome this irresponsibility in failing to raise taxes on the wealthy and adding to the deficit is by more irresponsible spending. Two wrongs still do not make a right.

This is proof positive that the concern for increasing the deficit on the part of Democrats is purely political. If they cared about increasing the debt, there would be spending cuts to offset the tax cuts. And Republicans in favor of this bill are guilty of the same illogical reasoning.

The only responsible action is to abandon all action in this lame duck session – one that has absolutely no moral authority – and wait until 2011.

Or better yet, pass a 90 day extension of the Tax Cuts and let the properly authorized congress deal with the issue. Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats were soundly defeated. It is only their arrogance and lack of doing the important work of the people that can be blamed. For a congressional body to return to the business of making laws after being completely repudiated by the people on election day is as unjust an event as can be imagined.

Worse, it gives liberal Republicans cover to vote for even more careless spending in order to get the tax cuts extended.

Please don’t think the American people are so stupid. We know better.

The Tea Party is still watching. The American voters are still watching. Do the responsible and moral thing. Take this more of the same spending bill and toss it in the trash. The American people have already said they want to take their chances with a different set of Legislators.

Ignoring the voters has consequences – even two years from now!
