The UN-fairness of Being Fair

The Progressive Socialists find American society inherently unfair. All of their waking thoughts are about how they can make things more fair, equitable and just, in their own minds.

And to progressives, those that have less are always the victim, the wealthy are always the oppressor who needs to be “taught a lesson”. And remember, progressives must have a victim to do anything. Race, gender and financial class are their favorites, but sexual orientation is growing in favor. Christians can never be victims, as they must be loathed by decree.

The hows and whys of this inequity are of no concern to progressives. The fact that the wealthy person became that way through hard work and the impoverished “victim” failed to take advantage of the same tools the wealthy person used will never enter into the equation.

It’s just not fair, they whine.

So the only solution they can see is to take what the wealthy have and give it to the less fortunate.

But is that fair? Working hard, learning, being in the right place with the right plan at the right time take some skill and a lot of hard work. And sometimes luck has a lot to do with it.

But the progressives miss one important distinction. An equal result is not necessarily fair.

For example, a parent has twins, and for their birthday, they both receive $20. That is absolutely fair.

Say one of the twins mows the lawn while the other plays video games. A progressive sees paying only the twin that did the work as unfair and inequitable. To them, fairness dictates that both twins receive the same.

But is that fair? Of course not!

So, are progressives able to even comprehend the true meaning of fairness?

The truth is, they are only capable of grasping a partial understanding of the term ‘fair’.

Take the “equal pay for equal work” concept, something the progressives all chant with regularity. In this case, it is women who are the victims. This is an example of an inequity where progressives don’t want to take from the better paid male workers, they want pay increases for the females. In this case, the oppressor is not the better paid workers, but business owners.

And, if the workers make the owners a lot of money, fairness dictates that the workers should share in the good fortunes of the owners. So unions will go on strike against management to receive their fair share. It was their hard work that made the owner’s rich, right? It’s only fair that they be forced to return something to those that made it all possible.

Yet if a Stock Broker works hard and makes his company a ton of money from his individual efforts, progressives see a bonus as unfair.

So, the obvious conclusion is that progressives redefine fairness to suit them whenever they wish. Like the Constitution, it has an ever changing meaning depending on the circumstances.

And they always come down on the side having the most votes.
